  • Job Title: IT Manager
  • Function: IT
  • Reports to: General Manager/Managing Director

Job Purpose:

To ensure the smooth day to day operation of all local IT systems and/or to provide specific technical expertise within a division/region and management of other IT staff/resources.

Scope:

Financial

  • Small £5 million
  • Medium £5 to £25 million
  • Large £25 million and over

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the application and development of the IT resources to ensure high availability of IT systems (>99%)
  • Specify requirements for agreed projects to ensure they meet the needs of the business
  • Manage, develop and implement specific IT projects to ensure they meet specification with minimum disruption to the business
  • Ensure new developments are tested and documented for future reference
  • Plan and control the day to day activities of junior IT staff to ensure they meet the needs of the business

Qualifications:

Educational and professional

  • Degree in IT or technical discipline or alternatively, A Level/Advanced GNVQ and 5 years progressive experience in appropriate IT

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Two years experience of managing an IT function/activity
  • Appropriate technical skill set which could include:
  • Relational databases (PROGRESS 4GL)
  • Operating systems (UNIX)
  • Computer communications/networking (both local and wide area networking)
  • EDI/E. commerce/Web fundamentals and applications
  • Commercial IT systems (estimating, order handling, planning, ledgers, finished goods etc)
  • PC’s and PC applications
  • Written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Project management and problem solving skills
  • Numerical/verbal reasoning skills
