  • Job Title: Packaging Development Manager
  • Function: Technology
  • Reports to: General Manager

Job Purpose:

To manage to entire packaging development function in line with overall business strategy to ensure the timely delivery of cost effective packaging that meets both customer and regulatory requirements.

Scope:

  • Turnover: £10 - £100m
  • Direct reports: 2 - 5

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of technical developments and trends in packaging
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements pertaining to packaging of the company’s products
  • In conjunction with the Sales and Marketing identify specific customer needs and develop packaging solutions to support these
  • In conjunction with manufacturing / packaging determine optimum manufacturing and processing methods
  • Manage a team of technologists to implement packaging development projects
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities whilst maintaining effective packaging solutions
  • Support the quality function by providing technical expertise

Qualifications:

Educational and professional:

  • Graduate calibre (preferably science based)
  • Membership of the Institute of Packaging

  • Sound knowledge and experience of the packaging industry including materials, manufacturing and printing
  • Project management skills
